I'm here doing my taxes ??? and working on a couple of commissions later, so I haven't got anything to show you right now, but I wanted to pop my head around the corner to say hello and wish you all a lovely weekend (whether you're doing your taxes or not - if you are, I highly recommend a strong cuppa and an almond croissant). Anyway, here are some pieces from the shop update last weekend. All orders are now on their way to their new homes! ??✍?? • • • #art #artist #artwork #painting #nature #paintedstones #stoneart #pebbleart #paintedpebbles #illustration #nestandflourish #beachpottery #makersmovement #makersgonnamake #abmlifeisbeautiful #etsyshop #mindfulness #craft #seaglass #moderncraft #tinyart #mybeautifulmess #pursuepretty #natashanewton #natashanewtonart #miniaturepainting #flashesofdelight #rockart #thesimplethings #thatsdarling

I'm in the process of completely updating/changing my website at the moment (don't things like this always seem to take a long time?!) and we had a little photo session in the studio where we took nearly all the stones I currently have and arranged them in an oval 'border'. This way we can play around with the image in Photoshop and add some text to the centre. This will be the new homepage on my website, so I thought it would be fun to share it with you! ?✍?? • • • #art #artist #artwork #painting #nature #paintedstones #stoneart #pebbleart #paintedpebbles #illustration #nestandflourish #seaglass #makersmovement #makersgonnamake #abmlifeisbeautiful #etsyshop #mindfulness #craft #beachpottery #moderncraft #tinyart #mybeautifulmess #pursuepretty #natashanewton #natashanewtonart #miniaturepainting #flashesofdelight #rockart #thesimplethings #thatsdarling

Surrey Tree 4 ? I'm working on several things this week (also add my annual Tax Return into the mix - Maths! Receipts! Lists of figures! ?) and so I decided to take a few moments to paint another tree stone because I find these very relaxing to make. ? This one will not be heading to my Etsy shop - it will be heading to my new website shop instead this time! I'm going to split the pieces between both shops from now onwards, because I'd really like to start using my website more now that we've updated it and it's looking all fine 'n' dandy! (natashanewton.com/shop) I'll add a link in my Story when the tree is in there! • • • #art #artist #artwork #painting #surrey #paintedstones #stoneart #treeart #paintedpebbles #illustration #nestandflourish #treeillustration #makersmovement #makersgonnamake #abmlifeisbeautiful #etsyshop #mindfulness #craft #surreyartist #moderncraft #tinyart #mybeautifulmess #pursuepretty #natashanewton #natashanewtonart #miniaturepainting #flashesofdelight #rockart #thesimplethings #thatsdarling

Two things! ✌? 1. A little update on the shop update! Since my last post, absolutely everything included in the update has now sold. If you are one of the people who kindly bought something, I'm starting to send them today, so by Friday they should all be in the post and on their way! Again, a HUGE thank you! ?✨ 2. I recently reached 21.5k followers. I can't quite believe this and the only reason I'm telling you is because I wanted to share a little bit of the story behind the growth of my IG account, as I feel it might give hope to some of you. • In a nutshell ?, I started this account in March 2013 and it took until July 2017 to reach around 4.5k followers. That's nearly 4.5 years! In the 6 months since July, it's grown to 21.5k. I reached 10k at the end of October, and I thought that was amazing enough, but in the 3 months since then, it's managed to grow to 21.5k. ✨ Earlier in 2017 I was feeling a little bit despondent, and even though I had a good following on here with great people, it seemed to be taking a very long time to actually grow my following. I don't want to seem ungrateful, because I know that to many people 4.5k followers is a lot. But it had taken 4.5 years to get there! Then suddenly I was featured several times, lots of new people found my page, and it's just completely snowballed from there. I never expected this to happen, and it happened at a time when I was feeling really quite low. I'm telling you this because I want you to know that, firstly, you never know when something great is just around the corner, and secondly, it IS possible to grow a following on Instagram organically, without buying followers (I've never been interested in doing that), and just through regularly posting the results of your hard work. A big thank you to all of you - you inspire me, and spur me on to be a braver, more interesting, and (hopefully) better artist. ?

Thank you all so much for making the shop update last night such a success! ??? I wasn't sure how well it would go, as due to my current workload the update went live much later than I would have liked or expected. This is the first time I've ever done a major update like this, listing many new individual pieces and collections at once, so it was a bit of an experiment for me, but I'll definitely be doing more of these in the future. As I type this, only 3 of the 13 listings posted last night are still available, and the shop link is in my profile if you'd like to have a look! ?✍?? Wishing you all a great start to the week - it's another busy one for me (January in general has been way busier than I expected!), so I'll need to pace myself. Thank you as always for your lovely comments and support recently. ?✨ • • • #art #artist #artwork #painting #nature #paintedstones #stoneart #pebbleart #paintedpebbles #illustration #nestandflourish #beachpottery #makersmovement #makersgonnamake #abmlifeisbeautiful #etsyshop #mindfulness #craft #seaglass #moderncraft #tinyart #mybeautifulmess #pursuepretty #natashanewton #natashanewtonart #miniaturepainting #flashesofdelight #rockart #thesimplethings #thatsdarling

I shared these back in October - they're for a book I've been working on for Quarto - but I thought that those of you who haven't seen them (which is actually the majority of my followers now - that's crazy!) might like to take a peek! ? I painted 42 animal stones in total, and I hope that I'll soon be able to share all of them with you! ???✍?? • • • #art #artist #artwork #painting #animalillustration #paintedstones #stoneart #pebbleart #paintedpebbles #illustration #nestandflourish #birdsofinstagram #makersmovement #makersgonnamake #abmlifeisbeautiful #etsyshop #mindfulness #craft #dogs #moderncraft #tinyart #mybeautifulmess #pursuepretty #natashanewton #natashanewtonart #miniaturepainting #flashesofdelight #rockart #thesimplethings #thatsdarling

Despite feeling a little rough today (after several hectic days plus quite a lot of travel, I came down with a migraine last night), I'm trying to get some work done whilst still having a fairly easy day. So I decided to photograph all the recent painted stones, sea glass and beach pottery pieces for the shop...and actually get them in there! ? (I'll let you know via my IG Story later when they're ready to buy). This photo shows a selection but not all of them, and some of these are already reserved for people since I shared them on here a few days ago. • This is unrelated, but I wanted to share my thoughts about something that has been on my mind over the past few days. Dominic and I were having an interesting discussion about a particular type of person we've both experienced in our lives, seemingly repeatedly. I won't go into too much detail but if you find that you're repeatedly targeted by people who could be described as domineering, manipulating, disrespecting of your personal space or time, or your opinions and beliefs, you need to understand that they WILL target people who they believe they CAN manipulate. In other words, people who don't like to say 'no', who tend to be 'people pleasers' and who, because of these traits, (and kindness/empathy are positive traits) have very weak boundaries. I used to be a person with weak boundaries. I would trust people, believing that essentially everyone is 'good' (this is not true; most are, but many aren't), and I would allow myself to be guilt-tripped and manipulated into situations I wasn't comfortable with. I've changed a lot over the past few years, and this has been a time of enormous growth for me. This is obviously a subject which needs to be talked about in more depth, because it's very nuanced and there's a lot more to this type of behaviour than I'm describing here, but I hope that you can at least get the gist of what I'm saying. Basically, trust your gut instinct (it's your most reliable source of gauging whether something isn't right) and protect yourself. Be strong and be true to your values, ignore negativity, and don't be dragged into manufactured drama. You don't have to be. ?

Today I was reminded of this collection of painted stones I created back in 2013, because they are now featured in a new book called A Book That Takes Its Time. This is a beautiful book about creativity and mindfulness produced by the creators of @flow_magazine, and this image was featured in the Dutch edition of the magazine in the summer of 2014. It was a lovely surprise to be told by one of my followers that they're in the book! ✍?? • • • #art #artist #artwork #painting #the_gentle_manifesto #paintedstones #stoneart #stones #paintedpebbles #illustration #nestandflourish #dscraft #makersmovement #makersgonnamake #abmlifeisbeautiful #etsyshop #mindfulness #craft #crafts #moderncraft #homedecor #mybeautifulmess #pursuepretty #natashanewton #natashanewtonart #artlicensing #flashesofdelight #rockart #thesimplethings #thatsdarling

I feel as though I've been working on a lot of pieces recently that I've been unable to share with you for one reason or another. Many commissions and many deadlines! I've now finished the 42 animal stones I told you I was working on and they are in London ready to be photographed for an upcoming book. I've only been able to share a handful of these with you so far, and so I really look forward to being able to show you the full collection of animals in due course! ???????????????????????? • • • #art #artist #artwork #painting #the_gentle_manifesto #paintedstones #stoneart #stones #paintedpebbles #illustration #nestandflourish #dscraft #makersmovement #makersgonnamake #abmlifeisbeautiful #etsyshop #mindfulness #craft #crafts #moderncraft #homedecor #mybeautifulmess #pursuepretty #natashanewton #natashanewtonart #artlicensing #flashesofdelight #rockart #thesimplethings #thatsdarling
