“Although you could think that my vulva looks pretty common, I never had a good relationship with it. It started when I was a little kid seeing my friends and family naked. I noticed that they all looked different; thinner, smaller, with a higher slash or with noticeable inner labia. This wasn’t how I looked like. I didn’t look like the girls in the catalogues, like the models. I felt like, I am too big, too much, not cute enough. I hated what my mons pubis looked like in a bikini, in underwear and in my leggings. Growing older didn’t make it better. My boyfriends telling me I am beautiful didn’t make it better. My mommy (who was  – for a long amount of time the only one I knew – looking alike) telling me that she loves our looks and that the men she dated loved her look, didn’t help. I always told myself that as soon as I have the money, I’ll visit a surgeon to change my mons pubis. That was before I found this project. Before I saw the fascinating diversity in vulvas. Before I noticed, that I don’t look weird and that there are tons of people out there who look like me. And who are confident with this look! It was before I internalised that we are all beautiful. No matter how long or short your inner labia are, no matter how big your mount venus is. No matter what! Today, I am so happy: Happy that I look like my mommy, happy in my underwear, happy dancing naked in front of my boyfriend, happy in the sauna, in front of my friends, happy in my leggings. I was happy before I lost 15 kilos due to an unpredictable illness (it is incredible how my vulva changes when my body and my weight changes) and I’ll be happy when I gain back these 15 kilos, which will make my vulva for sure a bit chubbier again. 🙂 And: I am so so happy and looking forward to hang my personal vulva portrait (which my mommy gave me as a Christmas present) into my new flat – where everyone can see it. Always reminding me that this project helped me feel happy, beautiful and confident.” . . This is a normal vulva. Half of all vulvas on earth have inner labia that are longer than their outer labia. That's 1.75 billion vulvas similar to this one. Often, one of the inner labia is longer than the other one, because human beings aren't symmetrical. Inner labia are often wrinkly and wavy, like the ones depicted here. Labia come in all kinds of colours. Some are pink, others are brown, reddish or purplish. Often it's a combination of colours, for example light on the inside of the vulva, but darker on the external skin, like the vulva depicted here. Sometimes the colour of the labia is the same as the rest of someone's skin, but often they are lighter or darker. And this also goes for the skin on the groin and inner thighs; it's often darker than the skin of the rest of the body. Those are all natural variations, and they are nothing to be worried or ashamed about. All bodies and all vulvas are beautiful just the way they are! ?✨ #thevulvagallery #vulva #vulvas #vulvaart #vaginaart #respecteachother #genderequality #freethevulva #empowerment #transinclusivefeminism #bodylove #genderinclusivity #humananatomy #empowerment #feministart #feministartist #bodypositivity #bodypositive #bodypositivemovement #selflove #watercolor #watercolorpainting #watercolorillustration #loveyourself #labia #freethepussy #thehappyfeminist #hildeatalanta

? "I love me" • These words are one of the strongest, most empowering words in the world. For many people, they are the most difficult words to express - for many reasons. If you have a sexual partner (whether you're in a relationship or not), always be aware that your words and actions may have a big influence on the other person. Being aware of the feelings of the other, and being respectful and patient towards them is so very important. Always be aware that you have a human being with feelings and insecurities next to you. Ask yourself: how would I like to be treated? If their body doesn't match your expectation, or if you think 'this looks weird', make sure you educate yourself first before pointing or grinning. It's ok to ask a question, but always be gentle and respectful. You can make a difference - the way you treat your sexual partner may change the way they experience their bodies in a positive way - and even may change their lives because of that. There is so much natural variation and diversity in this world, and there are so many body shapes and sizes - there is no 'normal'. All bodies are beautiful and unique in their own way. And so are all vulvae! ?✨ #thevulvagallery #vulva #vulvas #vulvaart #vaginaart #respecteachother #genderequality #freethevulva #empowerment #transinclusivefeminism #bodylove #genderinclusivity #humananatomy #empowerment #feministart #feministartist #bodypositivity #bodypositive #bodypositivemovement #selflove #watercolor #watercolorpainting #watercolorillustration #loveyourself #labia #freethepussy #pubichair #pubichairdontcare #thehappyfeminist #hildeatalanta

- Content warning: mention of sexual assault and BDD. - “My whole life, my vulva has been a huge struggle for me. I started realizing I didn’t look like my sisters, my mom, and women in porn when I was probably 13. This realization became an extremely intense form of body dysmorphic disorder after I was sexually assaulted at 14. I would stare at my vulva for an eternity before getting in the shower. I would search pictures of vulvas, and none ever seemed to look quite as “big” and “bulgy” as mine. It sticks out in my underwear and bathing suits, and that always caused me so much distress. I wouldn’t let my own family see me naked, let alone any potential partners. I am now 19 years old, and still a virgin due to my BDD. The Vulva Gallery has helped my self image more than anything else ever has, and although I am still on a self acceptance journey, I can’t thank The Vulva Gallery enough for where I am today in my progress.” . .
